Active

Harbor Drive Trunk Sewer Project

  • Location: South of the Convention Center on Harbor Drive from Beardsley Street to Park Boulevard, Park Boulevard from Harbor Drive to Imperial Avenue, and Imperial Avenue from Park Boulevard to 12th Avenue.
  • Project description: This project will replace and upsize more than 4,000 linear feet of trunk sewer main within the project service area. The new, larger main will provide increased capacity, improved structural integrity and renewed infrastructure for the area to support additional and projected sewage flows. The project is managed by the City of San Diego.
  • Project status: Construction is underway. Traffic in both directions on Harbor Drive from Park Boulevard to Beardsley Street is reduced to one lane and the southbound sidewalk is open, though with a reduced width. During portions of the project, all southbound vehicle and bicycle lanes will be closed to allow for tunneling operations and all traffic will be moved to the two northbound lanes, with one lane of shared vehicle and bicycle traffic in each direction.
  • Estimated timeframe: Through Spring 2025.

Bayshore Bikeway Barrio Logan Project

  • Location: South of the Convention Center on Harbor Drive from Beardsley Street to Park Boulevard.
  • Project description: The project closes an existing gap in the active transportation corridor and connects to the existing bikeway along the San Diego Bay. The new Barrio Logan segment includes a two-way, 10-foot-wide paved path with two-foot-wide paved shoulders that will extend along Harbor Drive between Park Boulevard and 32nd Street. The project has been completed in phases. The segment from Cesar Chavez Parkway to 32nd street will be completed by Fall 2024. The segment between Park Boulevard and Beardsley Street is currently paused until completion of the Harbor Drive Trunk Sewer Project. The project is managed by the San Diego Association of Governments.
  • Project status: The segment of the project is on hold until right-of-way becomes available upon completion of Harbor Drive Trunk Sewer Project. Vehicular traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Harbor Drive between Park Boulevard and Cesar Chavez Parkway once construction begins.
  • Estimated timeframe: Late 2025

Park Boulevard At-Grade Crossing Project

  • Location: Park Boulevard and Harbor Drive, between Petco Park and the Hilton Bayfront.
  • Project description: Project will extend Park Boulevard to Harbor Drive to allow vehicles to cross there.
  • Project status:
    • The first phase, estimated to take place from early to mid 2025, will not include any construction work along Harbor Drive. It will be done entirely within the railroad's fenced area right of way. Trolley operations will be impacted at times during this phase, though southbound MTS Green line service will continue to the Gaslamp Quarter station.
    • The second phase will begin upon completion of phase one and is anticipated to be completed in late 2026. This phase will include all physical and civil improvements, including widening Tony Gwynn Way, building a pedestrian barrier in the median along extended Park Boulevard to prevent pedestrian jaywalking, modifying the existing traffic signal at the intersection, modifying curb ramps, etc. To complete the curb work, single lane closures will be required for approximately one week. Other portions of phase two, including road re-pavement work, will require a single lane closure along the cityside of Harbor Drive near the end of the project.
  • Estimated timeframe: 2025-2026

Upcoming: 2026 (Estimated)
