Attendee Tip: Things to do in Spring 2017

Attendees from around the world will be arriving at the San Diego Convention Center this Spring for a variety of conventions, tradeshows and events, including the American College of Physicians, the National Indian Gaming Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. If you're attending a convention, bringing your family along for a vacation, or even a local San Diegan, here are some events you won't want to miss out on.

Red Bull Air Race World Championship

After nine years, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship is returning to San Diego. Only accessible to the world's most exceptional pilots, catch this thrilling air race as pilots reach speeds up to 230 mph over San Diego Bay. Watch these pilots combine high speed, low altitude and extreme maneuverability while staying afloat in the air. The event takes place Easter Weekend, April 15 and 16.

Rabbits in the Gaslamp

The Gaslamp Quarter is turning 150 years old! Beginning on May 15, fiberglass rabbit sculptures will be on display throughout the Quarter, each one representing a different decade. Restaurants and bars will make their own "Dusty Rabbit" cocktail for the Gaslamp Quarter's 150th Anniversary Cocktail contest which will last from May to June. Patrons can join in on the fun by voting for their favorite cocktail through social media.

Baseball Season is Back

The San Diego Padres are just a short walk away – directly across the street from the convention center. Take in a game at Petco Park before or after your convention or meeting. The season is now underway. With new opponents each game and promotions from Taco Tuesday to BeerFest, each game is sure to offer you a new experience.

Art Alive 2017

The San Diego Museum of Art celebrates the spring season with the 36th anniversary of Art Alive. Put together by top local and national designers, this stunning work of art brings to life more than 100 floral interpretations. Art Alive is a four-day event, running from April 27 to 30, featuring exquisite works made solely out of floral décor.

Trivia at Mission Brewery

Love trivia and always being right? Head over to Mission Brewery on Monday nights for trivia! Known as the Craft Beer Capital of America, San Diego is home to more than 130 breweries, countless beer bars and innovative tasting rooms. Enjoy Mission Brewery’s award-winning beers from Blonde Ales to an IPA. As Mission Brewery’s only location, all beer is brewed, bottled, canned and kegged on-site!

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean and displaying an array of vibrant colors, head over to The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. The 40 minute drive north of our convention center will lead you to 50 acres of Tecolote Giant Ranunculus flowers. Open six to eight weeks in the spring, this flower is the official announcement of spring in the San Diego region.

Cinco de Mayo in Old Town

Old Town San Diego is known as the "birthplace of San Diego." Why not celebrate the culture of Mexico during the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Old Town? As the largest of its kind in Southern California, celebrate Cinco de Mayo with authentic Mexican food, three live music stages and a Folklorico competition. The celebration lasts over a three-day period.

San Diego Taco Fest

San Diego’s largest taco festival is here! Enjoy a wide range of mouthwatering taco-centric restaurants and special performances from "Ice Ice Baby" artist Vanilla Ice and Mix Master Mike! Come on out to the waterfront on May 20 for fun in the sun.

San Diego County Fair

Take advantage of the season's best family-filled fun event. Topping off the end of the spring season and taking us into the summer season is the San Diego County Fair opening June 2 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. No better way to spend a day in the sun than with food vendors, rides and winning carnival games!

Taste of Gaslamp

How do you pick where to eat in the Gaslamp? With so many options to choose from, the Gaslamp Quarter is hosting Taste of Gaslamp, where attendees have the chance to enjoy sample options from 40 different restaurants! On June 17, this vibrant district will be showcasing their dining, live music, art galleries and retail options for all.
