San Diego Convention Center Blog Honored with PR News' National Award

The San Diego Convention Center received national recognition by earning the PR News' 2017 Nonprofit Award for Best Blog. "The Convention Center Connection" was honored at the PR News' Spring Awards Luncheon held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on March 22, 2017.

The annual awards event, held in the nation's capital, honors and celebrates the individuals and teams making a positive impact through nonprofit public relations, marketing and communications campaigns.

This year, hundreds of communications and PR professionals entered the competition from across the United States. To date, there is no other convention center that has earned an award in this category.

"This is a huge honor for our team," said President & CEO Clifford "Rip" Rippetoe. "We are in the experience business, and the stories we feature on our blog are designed to take you inside the building to see what we do, how the events we host impact the city and generate significant economic impact that affects our everyday lives."

"When you see your 'office' on a postcard, you recognize this isn't the typical work environment," said Executive Director of Communications Barbara Moreno. "Our creative team understands the global impact of working in a unique space such as the convention center. We take pride in telling the behind-the-scenes stories and collaborating with our co-workers, stakeholders, the community and customers to help people learn more about this iconic facility that has shaped San Diego."

The Convention Center Connection blog is managed completely in house by the internal Communications Department, a staff of five. The staff produces in-house videos, takes photos, creates animations and infographics, all which supplement the written content.

Here is an example of some of the top stories featured on the blog:
