San Diego Convention Center Adopts New Logo

When you first see the San Diego Convention Center, you most likely grab your camera, tablet or phone to snap a photo.

The unique blend of functionality and beauty in the building’s design has made San Diego’s convention center one of the premier meeting facilities in the world. Part of the downtown experience is taking in the iconic architecture that makes the facility so memorable: distinct buttresses, translucent barrel vaulted ceilings and our white Teflon Sails Pavilion.

That iconic architecture helped inspire a new logo for the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, which was officially adopted in September.

Designed in-house by the corporation’s Communications Department, the redesigned logo features the convention center’s iconic buttresses in new bold and vibrant colors, replacing the sun logo that has been in place for 10 years.

The goal of the rebrand was to add more personality to the branding that was in line with the facility’s iconic architecture. The color scheme drew inspiration from the corporation’s redesigned website, which launched in September 2014.

The logo’s first iteration was created in November 2014, to celebrate the San Diego Convention Center’s 25th anniversary.

Below is a gallery of photos showing the construction of the facility, which opened for business in November 1989. Take some time to look through our gallery.
