Record Breaking Attendance Set at American Association for Cancer Research Meeting

The 105th American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting is one for the record books. Attendance at this year’s event, which was held at the San Diego Convention Center from April 5 through April 9, 2014, topped out at 18,500 attendees. That’s two percent higher than the previous all-time attendance record, set last year.

The meeting draws attendees from around the globe, highlighting the latest discoveries in every area of cancer research.

“Congratulations to AACR on such a successful meeting,” said Carol Wallace, President and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation.

Margaret Foti, Ph.D, M.D., the Chief Operating Officer of AACR said this year’s Annual Meeting theme, “Harnessing Breakthroughs – Targeting Cures,” reflects the great progress being made in cancer research as discoveries in the lab are translated into treatments in an increasingly targeted and precise manner.

On top of that, she said San Diego and the Convention Center are desirable places to hold scientific meetings of this kind.

Watch her explain why in our latest video, made in partnership with AACR.
