San Diego Connection: Carol Wallace Reappointed to Obama Administration Advisory Board

The San Diego Convention Center’s CEO Carol Wallace has been reappointed to serve on the Commerce Department’s Travel and Tourism Advisory Board. The announcement was made this week by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. This will be Wallace’s second two-year term of service.

Wallace was elected to the Board based upon her areas of expertise which include:

  • The use of tourism as an economic development tool
  • Advocacy and outreach
  • Job creation
  • Training to promote national tourism

Wallace has led the San Diego Convention Center Corporation since 1991. Since then, the 2.6 million-square foot facility has become one of the top rated facilities in the world and one of San Diego’s strongest assets, generating $1.3 billion in economic impact last year and supporting 12,500 jobs region wide.

The travel and tourism industry now accounts for 26 percent of all American services exports, and nearly eight percent of overall exports, according to the Commerce Department.
