Sylvia Harrison, director of sales for the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, was recently named Salesperson of the Year at the 2008 Gold Key Awards, co-sponsored by the San Diego County Hotel-Motel Association and the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI). Harrison was honored for her many contributions to the industry, community involvement and high-quality service. Harrison is responsible for managing the short-term sales team who are accountable for booking short term convention & trade shows as well as local consumer business and community events. In addition she handles several national accounts including the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and Action Sports Retailer (ASR). The award recognizes her dedication, tenacity and professionalism with clients and coworkers alike. “Sylvia always goes the extra mile to exceed client expectations,” said Carol Wallace, president and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. “We’re very fortunate to have someone of her caliber and commitment to customer service on our team.” An alumnus of San Diego State University’s food and nutrition program, Harrison has been with the Convention Center for 14 years. She also contributes her time to the meetings and hospitality industries, serving as incoming president on the Southwest & Pacific Chapter of PCMA and sitting on the board of the San Diego Chapter of HSMAI. Now celebrating 20 years of success, the Convention Center has generated $18.3 billion in regional economic impact, $364 million in tax revenues for the City of San Diego and supports 12,500 jobs countywide.
