Chris Cramer, CEO and Co-Founder of Karl Strauss Brewing Company, has been appointed board chair of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. Also elected as executive board officers are Bob Nelson, incoming vice chair, and Alexis Gutierrez, incoming secretary-treasurer. Official executive board duties begin January 30, 2009. Cramer is currently serving his second term on the corporation’s board of directors. Active in the community, he is involved with many other associations including the San Diego Taxpayers Association, San Diego Rotary Club 33, the California Small Brewers Association, and the California Restaurant Association. He has more than 20 years of experience in the craft brewing industry. In addition to the main Karl Strauss distributing brewery in Pacific Beach, he also operates four high-volume brewery restaurants in the San Diego area. Cramer received both his BA in History and his MBA from Stanford University. Incoming Vice Chair Bob Nelson, of Bob Nelson Associates, is an advertising and public relations executive with over 30 years experience in government and communications. Nelson has been a board member for the Center since March 21, 2006 and recently served as the board’s secretary-treasurer. Gutierrez, incoming secretary-treasurer, is a business lawyer and partner in the law firm of Higgs, Fletcher & Mack LLP. He has considerable non- and for-profit board experience as legal counsel and member. Gutierrez has served on the Convention Center’s board since February 27, 2007. The San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s nine-member board of directors sets policy for the Corporation. The City Council appoints seven voting members to three-year terms. Two non-voting members are appointed by the Hotel-Motel Association and the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau. The San Diego Convention Center Corporation is a public benefit corporation created by the City of San Diego. The Corporation is exclusively responsible for marketing, managing and operating the Convention Center. In its 19-year history, the Center has generated nearly $15.2 billion in economic impact, over $309.8 million in tax revenues and continues to serve as San Diego’s premier gathering place.
